On September 9th, news broke that Orange County prosecutor Erik Petersen resigned from his office. The entire OC DA’s office, all 200+ prosecutors, was removed from the ongoing capital trial of Scott Dekraai after two lengthy evidentiary hearings revealed the widespread use of an illegal informant network and its coverup. The ongoing massive informant scandal implicates both the OC DA’s office and the OC Sheriff’s Department.
Today, according to the Omaha World Herald, we now know where Mr. Petersen is likely headed – to a position as a U.S. Attorney in Omaha.
Dean Edwin Chemerinsky of the UC Irvine law school has publicly called for DOJ to investigate the crisis in OC.
More to come as the story develops.
