The FBI is reportedly investigating incidents involving long-time District Attorney of St. Charles Parish, Harry Morel, who was allegedly asking for sexual favors in exchange for plea deals. More from the Times-Picayune in New Orleans, Louisiana:
While a recent federal subpoena sent to the St. Charles clerk of court targets Morel’s handling of DWI cases in particular, at least one case the feds are investigating goes back several years and involves a burglary ring. Errol Falcon Sr. — one of four people charged in the burglaries — said that his son, Errol Falcon Jr., who was also charged, was initially offered a sweetheart plea deal by Morel that may have been conditional on Falcon Jr.’s girlfriend performing a sexual favor for Morel… A source familiar with the case says that the sheriff’s office turned over the taped calls between Falcon and his girlfriend to the FBI shortly after they were recorded. The office also turned over evidence from a second case, in which a woman had said she had been asked to disrobe in Morel’s presence in exchange for a plea bargain. The source indicated that sheriff’s deputies were summoned to the scene, but didn’t know other details of that incident, such as the precise date and location.
The Times-Picayune reports that it is unknown exactly when the FBI took an interest in Morel and there is no indication yet of what the outcomes of their investigation will be. We will provide updates as they become available.
